THE LEADERSHIP SPOTLIGHT SHINES ON: DENESHA BAILEY

1. Where were you born and raised; current city; family; hobbies; past business highlights...
I was born in a small town in Clarendon, Jamaica but spent most of my formative years in Portmore, Saint Catherine. I currently reside in the capital, Kingston. I am the only child for my dad and the oldest of four for my mother. I have a passion for giving back, so I spend my “free” time volunteering for projects geared toward youth development. I am currently the Executive Director for a locally based NGO that focuses on helping young boys who have been taken out of the formal educational system improve their reading and literacy competencies. I also enjoy cooking and traveling.

2. How have you grown or personally developed since joining PlanNet?
I have grown a lot both personally and professionally since I’ve been with PlanNet Marketing, especially where leadership is concerned. I am not the same person I was a year ago before starting this business. In the past, I have led small teams of up to 20 for various projects, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would be in a position to lead a team of over 100 people that is rapidly growing; each with their unique story and diverse background. This within itself has forced me to make a lot of adjustments personally, especially when it comes to being more emotionally intelligent. I had to quickly unlearn what I had in my head about leadership in order to serve effectively. I find myself asking what more I can do to help my team, rather than what more can my team do to help me. I don’t get it right every day, but I do understand it’s a process. I am not quite where I want to be yet, but thanks to PlanNet Marketing, I am able to improve daily, and I think that is what really matters.

3. What drives you; what motivates you?
My drive comes from the fact that I have spent most of my life watching both parents make huge sacrifices to ensure I am where I am today and for that I am eternally grateful and indebted to them. My mom, especially, has sacrificed so much for me, including her education and her youth, as she became a mom at the age of 16. When I was 11 years old, she moved abroad out of a need to create a better life for herself and her children. That was 17 years ago, and she’s still fighting to accomplish that dream. My biggest goal is to see the day that I can call her up and tell her to pack her things and come home. That is what I look forward to the most and that is what keeps me going.

4. Who would you consider a role model and why?
Without a doubt, my mother. I believe she epitomizes a woman of great strength and resilience. It doesn’t matter what life throws at her, you will never see her without a smile. Her generosity towards people knows no bounds. A lot of my most dominant characteristics come from her.

5. The three words that describe you best are:
Passionate, Determined and Generous.

6. If you had some sound advice to give to anyone what would it be?
It doesn’t matter who you are, where you have been, what you have been through, or what people have said about you; if you want to change the rhetoric of your life, YOU CAN. What really counts is what YOU tell yourself every day. Henry Ford sums it up quite nicely, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re absolutely right.”

7. What does your life look like five years from now?
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! Thanks to PlanNet Marketing I can say with certainty and conviction that if it is God’s will, within the next five years I will be living my dreams of having personal, time, and financial freedom – being able to work my business on a full-time basis and traveling around the world helping to free hundreds of families through this amazing vehicle!
