COMPLIANCE CORNER

Last week we discussed marketing – today, let’s talk about branding.

First of all – what’s the difference?! There is a BIG difference!

Marketing says, “Buy our product! It’s better and faster and easier – you’ll love it!” Many of you market your product daily – on social media, in person, over the phone, in print.

Branding should go hand-in-hand with any marketing effort. Branding is not pushing your product on others, but instead pulling them in with who you are and how you do business. It’s communicating the characteristics, values, and qualities that tell a person what this particular brand is and is not.

A brand will help encourage someone to buy a product by supporting whatever marketing strategies are being used, but the brand does not say “buy me.” Instead, branding says “This is what I am. This is why I exist. If you agree, if you like me, you can buy me, support me, and recommend me to your friends.”

PlanNet Marketing has a very specific branding strategy. We want to be the BEST – we want to be the best at sales, at marketing, at answering phones, at answering questions, at supporting our Reps, at helping our employees, at hosting meetings, at paying on time, at following the rules, at explaining the rules, at building a company, at building an atmosphere…we want to go above and beyond.

We want you to be the best too!  We want you to be professional, ethical, helpful, encouraging, positive, friendly, smiling, successful. Are you there? Are you doing it? Or have you painted a very different branding image for your business?

I CHALLENGE each of you over the next week – look at yourself, look at your brand. Who are you telling the world you are? What are you communicating in your social media posts and comments? When you ask your team and clients “What am I? Why do I exist?” - what do they say? Dig deep and make sure that your marketing efforts aren’t going to be eclipsed by your branding. Make a decision to tell the planet exactly what you’re about and get people to agree with you – you won’t have to market nearly as hard if people agree and like you and support you. If they know you and know what you’re about – they’ll want to buy from you and they’ll recommend you to their friends.
